I think SFB should not have extended this charity offer to the city. In other words, who would want to tie their property up for a longer term lease for $23,000? Perhaps they may want to use that property for other purposes in 6 years. Besides, the city most likely gets more benefit from the parking lot than does the parish. (long term parishioner)

This is great information. Who or what group of businesses are affected by this bill i.e, small retailers of books and toys, clothing jewelry. What about librairies? Thrift Stores, etc. Just wanted some clarification.
Also, what happened to make this law come about? Besides the toy recall, did something adversely occur for this now to become law?

If the City of Washington tried to purchase land and put in a new parking lot for the downtown, the city would pay much more than $24,000. If done properly and the project is part of the comprehensive plan for the city, private-public partnerships benefit everybody and save taxpayer money.

Red light cameras violate the basics of our freedoms guarnateed by the US Contitution. A ticket is issued to the vehicle owner eventhough this is no proof that he personally violated the traffic light. The owner is presumed guilty unless he incriminates someone else as the driver.

FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Red light cameras are a money grab for the city, but mostly the camera companies.

FOLLOW THE MONEY

If the City stopped colecting fines from the vehicle owners, would the camera companies have any interest in the program?

FOLLOW THE MONEY

Have the State law changed so points are issued for red light cameras and see if the cities, camera companies and politicans can stand the heat from the public. They now hide behind a false claim that the cameras save lives and the fine is just like a parking violation. Parking violations are just $3.00 to $10.00. Red light fines are $60.00 to $125.000. If they were reduced to parking violation rates would there be intrest in the program from camera companies or cities?

A Money Grab is the route cause for the red light cameras. Stop the money grab and the need goes away by itself.

Mr Midkiff,
Thank you for taking time to talk to me on the phone about the WalMart gate. I urge you to please keep the gate closed. When WalMart first asked for approval of the plat the city council only approved it with the contingency that a gate be built to keep the commercial traffic out of our small neighborhood. Nothing has changed since WalMart has been built except now Highway 100 is much improved with the 2 lanes. At that time I submitted to city council a petition with over a hundred names to keep the gate closed. I am confident that today we could easily come up with that many names or more if need be to keep the gate closed.
I know that if you took a city wide vote the gate would most likey come down, because it doesn't affect their neighborhood. I hope the city council would see past that and try to keep the integrity of the small neighborhoods intact, keeping our town a great community. People say that streets are made to be driven on, but I feel this much traffic through a small neighborhood is excessive. Traffic studies showed that nearly a quater of a million cars would use Karen Lane. My parents built a house on Karen Lane over 45 years ago, and I followed suit and built my house on Karen Lane over 25 years ago. I was shocked that WalMart was going to be my neighbor, but thanks to the city council, and WalMart a large berm was built to shield the neighborhood. It is better then I thought it would be, but if the number one, 24 hour retailer in the country is allowed to use Karen Lane as an entrance then it was all a waste.
Now is the ideal time to explore the possibility of using International as a means of access to the WalMart development.
   Thanks again for your time.
Please keep me informed of any information on this issue.

the document does not contain any provisions about term limits. I am also concerned about how the document addresses salaries. It also those in power to take care of themselves. At one of the open meetings, a citizen proposed a salary commission to estblish and administer salaries. That seemed to address a concern of many at the meeting, however it is not in the final document. They held many public meetings, but I am not sure they listened

After reading the constitution and noticing some of the loopholes in the document, I get the feeling that I am about to buy a used car and am leaving a blank check with a salesman who said "trust me". This constitution leave too many questions unanswered to even be considered as a serious ballot issue.

Perhaps, you should specify your question clearer. I believe there are many people for charter government, but not the charter government as it stands currently. I am of the later category, and think charter government is a great thing, but have the same concerns as many others who posted.
